Access the Vote TX

In Texas, a voter can tell an election official they need help voting upon their arrival at the polling place. They do not have to provide proof of their disability. Voters are entitled to assistance if they cannot read or write, cannot read or mark the ballot due to a disability, cannot speak English, or communicate only with sign language and want assistance communicating with election officials. Voters can be assisted by anyone who is not an election worker, two designated election workers on Election Day, or one election worker during early voting.
In Texas, an Access Voting Unit or Direct Record Electronic device is available at all voting locations. In Denton County, a HART InterCivic Verity Touch Write serves voters who are blind, have limited vision, or have limited dexterity that prevents them from marking the ballot without assistance. This is an ADA compliant voting system that is certified by the Texas Board of Elections.
In Texas, a voter can be brought their ballot curbside. If a voter is physically unable to enter the polling place they should call ahead and ask that an election officer bring a ballot to a parker car curbside at the entrance. The voter does not need to provide proof of disability. The election officer or the voter's companion will deposit the ballot in the ballot box upon completion by the voter.
In Texas, if a voter will be 65 or older on Election Day, has a disability, or will be outside the county, or confined in jail, the voter can apply to vote by mail.
